The Story
It was a decade ago that Philip Catherine, one-time travelling companion in Chet Baker’s drum-less trio formation, was invited to Bern’s jazz training centre. An inspiring joint performance subsequently prompted Woodtli and his fellow students Perrin and Beyeler to form a trio along the same lines. The first interpretations soon led to the development of a transparent, chamber–music-like sound that helped the three musicians develop an individual, identifiable repertoire through their subtly different, sometimes even poetic playing styles. Since then the trio has made well over 200 appearances at jazz festivals, in clubs and private events.
